A Different Spirit

Across this country, we are facing some very disturbing events. The headlines read of the pandemic, nationwide shutdown, political unrest, economic downfall, racial violence, and rioting in our streets. There are many loud voices, each screaming of their outrage.

It truly brings me to tears. I've been asking the Lord how to pray, how to respond in a way that could make a difference. This morning He spoke these words to me:

"It takes a different spirit."

I thought of Caleb who had a different spirit. If you click that link and read the account of the Israelites, you will see that while everyone cried out and complained against their leaders, blaming them for the hardships they faced, Caleb had a different spirit.

Our voices should sound different. Complaining, critical, and hateful words should not be coming out of our mouths. God impressed upon me that we need to react in a spirit of love. We need to be thankful and speak blessing over our nation, our leaders, and the people. He brought the song, God Bless America to my mind. Play that song over and over again. Then your prayers will come from a place of speaking life and blessing.

Before God spoke the words "It takes a different spirit" to my heart, I was meditating on Ephesians 6 and Jeremiah 1, on what principalities and powers need to be addressed.

There is most definitely a need for spiritual warfare against the principalities of envy, hatred, violence, and murder. Even Caleb had to go to war but he went with a different spirit. Our spiritual warfare will take on a different tone and be more effective if we do it with thankful hearts in the spirit of love (love for God, love for truth, love for justice, love for the people Christ died for).

This is where my heart is today. I'm asking God for a different spirit, one that can truly make a difference. From a motivation of humility, thankfulness, and love, I'm asking God to heal our land and deliver us from evil. Please join me.
