You're being faithful to read your Bible and then you come to: begat, begat, begat, begat, begat, begat, begat, begat, begat, begat, begat, begat, begat, begat, begat, begat, .......
It seems like they will never end. Usually, they are soooooo dry!
I have found that this is a good time to be specifically thankful for generational blessings. Stop and contemplate your spiritual heritage. Make an effort to recall special things about your great-grandparents, grandparents, parents, even your aunts and uncles. Sometimes, you can find patterns of generational anointing or callings. It's pretty exciting. Praise God for these blessings, both in your life and in the life of your children and grandchildren. Even if you don't see it in their lives yet, praise God for their spiritual heritage and the plans He has for them.
"The Lord thy God,
He is God, the faithful God,
which keeps covenant and mercy
with them that love Him
and keep His commandments
to a thousand generations."
Deuteronomy 7:9
Thank you, Father, for the generational blessings of covenant and mercy to a thousand Welty generations! That means my kids, grand-kids, great grand-kids, and on and on! Praise God!!
It's also a good time to consider the flip side of generational issues. In Exodus 20, we find the ten commandments. Right between commandments 2 & 3 we find these words:
"I the Lord thy God am a jealous God,
visiting the iniquity of the father's
upon the children unto
the third and fourth generation
of them that hate me;
And shewing mercy unto
thousands of them (generations)
that love me,
and keep my commandments."
Exodus 20:5&6
Ask Holy Spirit to reveal any generational curses or sin patterns that might need to be addressed. On behalf of any ancestor, yourself, or offspring - confess and renounce what Holy Spirit shows you (possibly sin or disease). In the name of and by the blood of Jesus, pray over your children & grandchildren. Ask for God's mercy to change the pattern of this curse or sin into blessings and righteous living for His glory.
"Christ has redeemed us
from the curse of the law,
being made a curse for us:
for it is written,
'Cursed is every one
that hangs upon a tree':
That the blessings of Abraham might
come on us through Jesus Christ;
that we might receive the promise
of the Spirit through faith."
Galatians 3:13&14
I think about my children and grandchildren. What kind of spiritual heritage and blessings will I leave for them? What kind of spiritual curses and sin patterns might affect them because of something that I stubbornly or proudly refuse to deal with. Holy Spirit search me, try my heart, know my thoughts, and see if there be any wicked way in me. For the sake of Welty generations to come, lead me in the way of life everlasting.
"But the mercy of the Lord
is from everlasting to everlasting
upon them that fear Him,
and His righteousness
unto children's children;
to such as keep His covenant,
and those that remember
to do His commandments."
Psalm 103:17&18
Another good passage: Psalm 112:1-3
Love that!

I chose this pic to illustrate "Begat". This is Alissa (my oldest son's wife) when she was pregnant with twins.
