Dirty Windows

Dream (3/2021): I was washing windows at a neighbor's house. They were very dirty. They made even a sunshiny day seem gray and overcast.

As I sought the Lord for an interpretation of the dream, I remembered a verse about the eyes being the windows of the soul.

“Your eyes are windows into your body. If you open your eyes wide in wonder and belief, your body fills up with light. If you live squinty-eyed in greed and distrust, your body is a musty cellar. If you pull the blinds on your windows, what a dark life you will have!" (Matthew 6:22-23 The Message). Read the NKJV here. Read The Passion translation here.

Interpretation: Our neighbors may actually need their windows cleaned. More likely, however, they need our prayers! Pray for the eyes of their heart to open to the wonder of God's love. Pray for the radiance of His love to break through the clouds of fear, oppression, and depression. Put some passion and energy into those prayers like you would if you were literally their washing windows.

Before you pray for them, I suggest you examine your own eyes. What have you been focused on? Have you been focused on the light? Or have you been focused on the overwhelming darkness of this world? Jesus is the light of the world. We are told over and over again in the scripture to "Look up." "Fix your eyes on Jesus."

Jesus told us to anoint our eyes with eye-salve. I spent some time before the Lord asking Him what it means to anoint my eyes with eye-salve. It means to wash them out, wash away filth or debris. We wash them with the water of the Word. Spending time in His word affects our perspective.

Humility is part of the eye-salve. He took me to Luke 10:23 where Jesus said privately to His disciples, "Blessed are the eyes which see the things that you see." We need to humbly acknowledge that it's His mercy and goodness that has opened our eyes to see. We can take no credit ourselves or become puffed up at our clean windows. We can only strive to keep them clean and focused on Jesus. Then we can wash our neighbor's windows or pray for them as Elisha prayed:

"Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes,

that he may see.

And the Lord opened the eyes

of the young man; and he saw...".

2 Kings 6:17
