The Lord put it on my heart to write a blog about blessings and placentas. I found it bizarre that He wanted me to write about “placentas.” Not knowing much about them, I had to do some research.
The placenta starts forming around 10 days after a fertilized egg implants in the uterus. Continuing to grow throughout the pregnancy, the placenta’s shape resembles a disk that will measure approximately 8 inches and weigh 1 pound at full term. The etymology of “placenta” shows it is Greek in origin and means “flat cake.” This flat cake is a strong network of blood vessels that facilitate life and growth for the child through the exchange of nutrients, gases, and waste from mother to baby. A study conducted at Cornell University shows that the father’s genes/DNA dominate the placenta. This thick complex branching of blood vessels has been nicknamed the Tree of Life.
Spiritually speaking, we are pregnant with God's plans for us, we are carrying His promises. “…know the love of Christ, which surpasses knowledge, that you might be filled with all the fullness of God”(Ephesians 3:19). Experiencing the love of Jesus fills us with the fullness of God much like being impregnated. What does Jesus’ love deposit in our spirit? ALL spiritual blessings are ours in Christ, including His DNA, sonship, love, forgiveness, righteousness, His plans for us, hope, healing, deliverance, wisdom, favor, peace, joy...
We carry spiritual blessings (His plans and His promises), but they require nurturing. Just like a physical placenta nourishes a baby in the womb, these blessings need a spiritual source to sustain them, provide what is necessary, and remove what is toxic. The Father has given us a spiritual placenta to bring those heavenly blessings into our everyday lives. Our spiritual placenta (our Tree of Life made from His DNA) is an intricate network that includes:
Living in the finished work of the shed blood of Jesus Christ.
Consuming His Word (flat cake).
Spending time in His presence.
Listening to His voice.
Maintaining spirit to Spirit fellowship with Him.
Walking in humble obedience.
By embracing His nurturing love, we can birth His blessings, plans, and promises. Spending time in His Word and presence will empower us to see His plans come to fruition. This time will also help us eliminate toxic waste like sin, unforgiveness, fear, doubt, wrong attitudes, and wrong motives, which, if ignored, could hinder our blessings, or even lead to miscarriage.
