We are definitely living in uncertain times. It's almost like driving through dense fog.
Think with me for a minute about fog. In a driving situation, a person automatically slows down and switches on the fog lights.
Spiritually, the fog would symbolize confusion, disorientation, fear, and uncertainty. We know the Word says "confusion is not of the Lord" and that He "has not given us a spirit of fear". So how do we navigate spiritually in uncertain times as these?
We switch to faith. "For we walk by faith and not by sight" (2 Corinthians 5:7).
Walking by sight would be equivalent to believing everything you hear and see. Walking by faith is believing the report of the Lord. We walk this impossible walk by keeping our focus on Jesus. We walk this impossible walk by getting into His Word. We walk this impossible walk by tuning into His voice. We value His truth over every other truth.
Hosea 3:4-5 describes our situation perfectly. "For the children of Israel shall abide many days without a king, and without a prince, and without a sacrifice, and without an image, and without an ephod, and without teraphim"(Hosea 3:4). Who will be the next president of the USA? Although the media has called the election, I'm waiting for a higher court to rule (I really don't want to get into all that.) I want to point out the confusion that Isreal experienced because of having no king. They didn't know who to sacrifice to (who or what to worship - image & teraphim). They did not know who had the power (ephod). They were quite befuddled.
Verse 5 tells us what happened. "Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the Lord their God, and David their king; and shall fear the Lord and his goodness in the latter days." I take this to mean that God is at work across our whole nation. He is turning hearts to Himself and causing people to seek Him. Instead of looking to a man for hope, they are acknowledging that Jesus is the king we need. The fear of the Lord is returning to our land and we will see His goodness in these latter days.
Keep praying. Keep believing. Even when you can't see what He is doing, trust that He is at work and that He is doing a good thing. If you need to be encouraged, turn on the fog lights by spending some time in Psalm 23. Lean into every phrase.
