When my kids were teenagers (2 of which were boys), we would go through groceries so fast that it was CRAZY. I'm talking 4 gallons of milk, 4 loaves of bread, multiple boxes of cereal, bags and bags of chips every single week! I would buy groceries once a week and usually fill up an entire shopping cart and half of another cart. Since our kitchen is upstairs, I would plan my shopping trip so that I would be getting home with the groceries right when the school bus was dropping off the boys. They ate most of it -- I figured they should carry it upstairs. Michael was always excited to see what he called "The Mother Lode"! It meant the cupboard would full again. Shopping day, "The Mother Lode" day was his favorite day of the week.
2 recent spiritual dreams:
#1. I was eating fish.
#2. I was pushing a shopping cart in a grocery store.
I sought the Lord for the interpretation of the dreams. As I sat in His presence, I remembered that fish food is sometimes called brain food. I googled: "Is fish good for the brain?". Medicinal news today says that fish is very good for our brain cells. It increases blood flow to the brain and allows for better cognitive thinking*.
I asked the Lord what He was
showing me. Does He want
me to eat more fish?
He said, "Wisdom".
I realized that eating fish in my
dream symbolizes my pursuit
of and desire for wisdom.
Just as many food options are available to us (chicken, beef, pork, fish, etc.), there are many choices concerning what I focus on and pursue to feed my soul and my spirit man. Wisdom is one of those choices. I think the Lord was showing me through the dream that He approves of my choice to pursue wisdom, the highest summit.
A fisherman has to put forth some effort before he eats his dinner. He must catch it, clean it and cook it. I'm obviously not a fisherman so I have probably oversimplified that. But, it helps me realize that gaining wisdom is a process that requires effort and persistence.
I usually buy my fish at a supermarket - hence the shopping cart dream. I actually spend time planning and considering what I want to buy and eat. Then, comes the checkout where money is required to buy the food items I have chosen. Feeding our soul and our spirit can be done without spending much money and with very little effort. TV and social media will feed you all day and all night. The problem is that these things are rarely good for us.
The Bible tells us that we should be willing to spend our resources on wisdom. If we value wisdom, we will budget both time and money in the pursuit of it.
"Buy the truth,
and sell it not;
also wisdom,
and instruction,
and understanding"
Proverbs 23:23
Apparently, acquiring wisdom will change your life dramatically. In my recent pursuit of it, I have come across some remarkable passages of scripture. Here are a few for your consideration.
"The fear of the Lord
is the beginning of wisdom"
Psalm 111:10
"Let the Word of Christ
dwell in you richly,
teaching and admonishing
one another in all wisdom..."
Colossians 3:16
"But the wisdom from above
is first pure, then peaceable,
gentle, open to reason,
full of mercy and good fruit,
impartial and sincere"
James 3:17
"He who wins souls is wise"
Proverbs 11:30
"Everyone who hears
these Words of mine
and does them
will be like a wise man
that built his house
on the rock"
Matthew 7:24
Don't just read these verses once. Choose one or two to meditate on for several days. Wisdom will change your life! It's the Mother Lode!!!!
I'm convinced that any wisdom I gather will hugely impact not only my life but the lives of my family and friends. After all, I fed my family from "The Mother Lode" every week and because of that they grew and thrived. I want to see people grow and thrive spiritually. I know you do too so fill your shopping cart with wisdom from the Word. And, don't forget to eat lots of fish or rather spend lots of time with Jesus.
"You are in Christ Jesus,
who has become for us
wisdom from God;
that is our righteousness,
holiness and redemption"
1 Corinthians 1:30 NIV
"The Mother Lode" usually refers to a large vein of silver or gold found in the earth. If you want to read what wise King Solomon said about the ultimate Mother Lode, follow this link:
One last wisdom passage:
By wisdom a house (a life) is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches. A wise man is full of strength, and a man of knowledge enhances his might, for by wise guidance you can wage your war, and in abundance of counselors there is victory. Wisdom is too high for a fool; in the gate he does not open his mouth.
Proverbs 24:3-7 (ESV)
