Who's In Charge?

Lately, I've heard people debating who is in charge of our country. Is it the sitting president or someone else? Of course, as Christians, we know our heavenly Father is in charge. I felt prompted to do a word study on Psalm 47. This is what I discovered about who is in charge.

Psalm 47 (KJV):

1 O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph.

2 For the Lord most high is terrible; he is a great King over all the earth.

3 He shall subdue the people under us, and the nations under our feet.

4 He shall choose our inheritance for us, the excellency of Jacob whom he loved. Selah.

5 God is gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet.

6 Sing praises to God, sing praises: sing praises unto our King, sing praises.

7 For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding.

8 God reigns over the heathen: God sits upon the throne of his holiness.

9 The princes of the people are gathered together, even the people of the God of Abraham:

for the shields of the earth belong unto God: he is greatly exalted.

My thoughts & findings:

1 Do not despair! Rejoice, clap & shout to God in triumph (victory).

2 For …. These are the reasons to praise Him. He is:

1 God - Elohim, the supreme one, the mighty one

2 LORD - Jehovah, the existing one, God's proper name.

He is "terrible" - to be feared and revered

2 King - ruler

2,7 He is King over all the earth.

3 He will subdue the people & the nations under our feet.

4 He will give us an inheritance - bless us.

8 He reigns over the heathen.

8 He sits on His throne in holiness.

5 He cannot & will not be unheard. His shout is like a trumpet.

7 Sing praises, clap & shout with "understanding". Understand who He is and your praise will powerful.

9 We are the King's kids, princes (princesses). Understand who you are. Princes carry weight & authority in their father's kingdom. We have authority on the earth, especially when we gather together in unity to worship our God. That's when we become shields that protect the earth. The Hebrew word for Shields means an armed protector, a ruler positioned to protect. The NIV substitutes the word kings for shields. We are kings (shields) and priests unto our God. Revelation 5:10:

And hast made us unto our God kings and priests:

and we shall reign on the earth.

Our praise should be loud-proud clapping & shouting. Our praise should have content and understanding. Often we say things like: "Praise God", "Hallelujah", and "Thank you, Jesus". These phrases are good but our praise should declare who He is. The words highlighted in blue (above) have substance. Offering praise with substance declares who He is, forming a shield in the earth. A shield against His enemies. Another verse says we (His people) are the restrainers that hold back evil (2 Thessalonians 2:6-7). Do some restraining in the form of bold worship. Check out the power passionate praise has in the earth: Psalm 149.

Bold worship & praise are key in this hour. As kings are waging war for power, let's declare who the real King is. Let's declare who is really in charge. Release the truth into the atmosphere with a shout of praise!
